Frame rate (FPS) is always listed on the specs sheet of any gadget.

You will often see descriptions like frame rate, 4K/30FPS, 1080P/60FPS, or smooth video on product packaging and catalogs.

In this article, I would like to give a simple explanation of frame rate (FPS).

How different is 30FPS and 60FPS?

You may see descriptions like this or expressions like “smooth video.”

In this article, I would like to provide a simple explanation of frame rate (FPS).

I will compare actual videos to see how much of a difference there is between 30 FPS and 60 FPS, so please use this as reference when purchasing a camcorder.

Frame rate? It’s an unfamiliar word, but it’s not difficult.

Frame rate
A video has a number of frames, and it’s easy to think of this as the number of images to be processed.

Videos are often thought of as being completely different from still images, but in fact, videos that have movement from start to finish are also a collection of still images.

As anyone who has used an iPhone camera knows, iPhones have something called Live Photos.

This is a “moving photo” that can record movement and sound for 1.5 seconds before and after pressing the shutter.

This Live Photo also has several frames. In fact, photos taken with Live Photos can be edited, and you can choose your favorite photo from about 8 frames.

I’ve digressed a little, but a still image taken with a camera is one still image, an iPhone Live Photo is eight still images, and the theory is the same for videos, and it is a unit of how many still images are used per second (how many frames are saved).

I will explain this in detail later, but by looking at the FPS (frame rate) listed, you can tell to some extent whether the movement of the video is smooth and smooth or choppy.
